Learn to Skate Lessons 
Whether you’re stepping onto the ice for the very first time or looking to refine your skills, Valpo Parks Ice Skating Lessons are the perfect way to glide into winter fun! From December through March, our three sessions are packed with learning, laughter, and plenty of time to grow your confidence on the ice. Session I
December 1st - December 20 (6 Session Class ; dates dependent on days chosen)
Registration Opens: October 1 at 8:30am CST
Tots Details - Session 1
Tots/parents will learn how to properly put on skates, sit and stand in skates, march in place, march forward, and glide on the ice. Our goal is to make Tots feel comfortable on the ice and have fun ice skating!
Parents are encouraged to skate if they are confident on the ice.
- Ages: 3 - 5 by December 1st, 2025
- Session Options: All classes are 20 minutes
- Mondays and Wednesdays at 3:50pm
- Mondays at 4:50pm/Saturdays at 8:50am
- Wednesdays at 4:50pm/Saturdays at 9:50am
- Fee: $70 resident / $80 non-resident

Beginners Details - Session 1
Students will learn how to properly put on skates, sit/stand in skates, march forward, glide, stop, and swizzle. This class is for beginners with little to no experience skating or for Tots who are ready for the next step. Our goal is to help students feel comfortable skating and learn basic skills.
- Ages: 6 - 17 by December 1st, 2025
- Session Options: All classes are 30 minutes
- Mondays and Wednesdays at 4:15pm
- Mondays at 5:15pm/Saturdays at 9:15am
- Wednesdays at 5:15pm/Saturdays at 10:15am
- Fee: $75 resident / $85 non-resident
- Register Opens: October 1st
Session 2
January 5 - January 28th (6 Session Class ; dates dependent on days chosen)
No class Saturday, January 17 and Monday, January 19
Registration Opens: December 3rd at 8:30am CST

Intermediate Details - Session 3
This class is for students who have already taken the beginner class and are ready for the next step. This class focuses on advancing skills. Students will learns half swizzles (forward and backward), two foot turns, one foot glides, and more as the skill levels of the class allow.
Students need to have already mastered the following to enroll in this program: mastery of forward skating, backwards swizzles, glides, and stops.

- Fee: $80 resident / $90 non-resident
Youth Sports Refund Policy:
- To be eligible for a refund, cancellations must be requested a minimum of seven (7) days before the published registration deadline.
- Cancellations within seven (7) days of the registration deadline will not be refunded.
- Refunds will be distributed back to the participant through a check in the mail. This process takes 4 – 6 weeks.
- A $15.00 service charge for processing all cancellations will apply unless the Valpo Parks and Recreation Department cancels a program due to low enrollment.
Session dates for session 3 will run through Saturday, February 28th for the regular class. After this date, the ice rink will officially close for the season on Sunday, March 1st. If any make-ups are required and the weather cooperates, we will make-up sessions for hockey and ice skating lessons during the week of March 2nd - March 8th. Make-up days are weather permitting and not guaranteed. Only 1 make up class will be held per session of ice skating lessons. Make-up days are only held for sessions cancelled by Valpo Parks, not individual class absences.
The lesson fee includes ice skate rental and open skate for the day of the lesson. Participants can use their own skates. They must wear a helmet; bike helmets are acceptable or they can rent one at the rink for free.
